14. The Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the
One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15. John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was
he of whom I said, `He who comes after me has surpassed me because he
was before me.'"
16. From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after
another.
17. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through
Jesus Christ.
18. No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the
Father's side, has made him known.
8. For it is by grace you
have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the
gift of God--
9. not by works, so that no one can boast.
10. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do.
11. For the grace of God that
brings salvation has appeared to all men.
12. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions,
and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
13. while we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our
great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
14. who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify
for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
