1. The word of the LORD came
to me:
2. "Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy
and say to them: `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the shepherds
of Israel who only take care of themselves! Should not shepherds take
care of the flock?
3. You eat the curds, clothe yourselves with the wool and slaughter the
choice animals, but you do not take care of the flock.
4. You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the
injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost.
You have ruled them harshly and brutally.
5. So they were scattered because there was no shepherd, and when they
were scattered they became food for all the wild animals.
6. My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. They
were scattered over the whole earth, and no one searched or looked for
them.
36. Leaving the crowd behind,
they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other
boats with him.
37. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that
it was nearly swamped.
38. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke
him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"
39. He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be
still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40. He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still
have no faith?"
41. They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even
the wind and the waves obey him!"
12. remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.
