RESPONSIVE READING
Leader: Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said,
"Surely the Lord is in this place and I did not know it." He
was afraid and said, "How dreadful is this place! This is none other
than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven."
Congregation: Yet I surely know that it will be
well with those who fear God, who fear before Him . . . But it will not
be well with the wicked . . . because he does not fear before God.
Leader: Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with
trembling.
Congregation: Do not call conspiracy everything
that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, do not
dread it. The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is
the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.
Leader: Fear the Lord, you his saints, for those
who fear him lack nothing.
Congregation: My flesh trembles in fear of You;
I stand in awe of Your laws.
Leader: The Lord says ... "this is the one
I esteem; he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my
word."
Congregation: The way
of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes...
To fear the Lord is to hate evil.
Leader: Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord,
we persuade men.
